Welcome one and all to the first post of Mechanonymous. This is my personal blog where I wish to put down my thoughts on all things mecha, that is the piloted, ambulatory machine genre. For starters, I suppose it would be best to discuss why I have a strong interest in the genre and a bit of my history with it.

In simplest terms, I suppose my interest has its roots in a fascination with heavy machines; a fixation on the wonders of technology. However I was an impatient child and despite this interest I grew 'bored' of trains or construction equipment who's functionality is refined and limited. Sometime after Tomas the Tank Engine ceased to interest me I was introduced to a live action show by the name of Power Rangers. I am sure this was not my initial exposure to the concept of Giant Robots, I remember not blinking twice when the hard rocking introduction climaxed with the assemblage of the Megazord.

It was here, that my lifelong interest began, not merely because of my childlike fascination with a highly repetitive, goofy, kid's show but also thanks to the merchandise it offered. Besides, perhaps, a hand-me-down happy meal transformer the combining toy dinosaurs were my first toy robots. Sadly little remains of that particular toy (again I was not the most restrained child) but it was through this toy that I met and bonded with the first of two very good friends in my life. A Neighbor a few years younger than I whom kept me into Power Rangers until late in Turbo.

My interest might have faded after I sadly lost contact with this good friend had it not been for my later discovery of Cartoon Network and, in turn, Toonami. I found the original block featuring Moltar running classic action shows like Voltron, Robotech and a smattering of old school shorts. Voltron planted itself deep in my heart via appealing to that comforting feeling while Robotech merely interested me. It would not be long before I was truly hooked once more.

Anyone who was of a certain age in the Late 90s/early 00s likely realizes what comes next. The Hook that solidified my love of Mecha such that I have yet to extricate myself, Gundam Wing. This single show with it's dense and complex plot grabbed my attention and would not let go. Furthermore it was the connection that made me another truly great friend. I also was introduced to Gunpla which after having experienced the mostly static Megzords amazed me.

From there I fell straight down the rabbit hole eating up what Mecha and anime offerings I found with gusto. Even after losing touch with my new friend I stayed the course into college where I was at last introduced to Fansubs and all the online community had to offer. I have since consumed uncountable mecha series new and old and believe I have come to the point where I wish to share my opinions and views on the subject.

My intent is to make a text post at least once a week discussing either current or classic mecha shows and other media. Aspects of these discussions will include Characters, Mecha designs (both visually and functionally) and the overarching plot. Join me next week as I offer my initial impressions of Silver Will Argevollen.
